Nobis Group is a well established New Hampshire based civil engineering firm who is currently seeking a Civil Project Manager for engineering and multi-disciplinary projects in land development and water resources.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participates in initial client meetings and presentations to clients, also in the development and formation of proposals. Becomes familiar with the client's organization, key people, and sensitivities and works to develop a strong client relationship.
  • Maintains an understanding of project financial issues including: project budget, terms of agreement, changes in agreement scope, and billing process, Schedules and records all meetings and ensures follow up on decisions.
  • Monitors performance of client responsibilities and communicates deviations to the client. Implements applicable firm policies bearing on client relations.
  • Initiates or modifies project reporting procedures or information as required and discusses deviations from the firm's policies.
  • Establishes goals for projects consistent with contract agreements. Knows fee arrangements, management systems, and project schedule requirements.
  • Determines team staffing requirements. Delegates’ authority and responsibility to team members. Ensures project files and reporting are maintained. Monitors progress and takes action when team performance deviates from established plan. Monitors team performance to ensure compliance with contractual arrangements. Monitors product quality, design and technology to ensure consistency with contractual arrangements. Implements the firm's policies that have an impact on team activities.
  • Makes final decisions in matters of team technical performance relative to procedures and end product as consistent with contract requirements and company procedures and policies.

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and a PE license in New Hampshire (or ability to obtain), with a Master’s degree in civil engineering a plus. A min. 8-years of strong project mgmt. experience in land development and permitting utilizing applicable State standards in the preparation of land development plans for commercial, federal, and municipal projects. Emphasis on evaluation and resolution of federal, state, and local regulatory compliance through site auditing, design and implementation of innovative BMPs and source control applications; NPDES permit assistance, planning and preparation of SWPPPs. Additionally this position will provide oversight and training of other technical staff to coordinate design, sampling, and BMP operations and maintenance functions. Additional expertise would include the execution of hydrologic and hydraulic analyses projects with a focus on the analysis of scour-critical bridges, floodplain modeling and mapping, and impoundment analyses and design. Experience with HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, HEC-GeoRAS a plus. Knowledge and experience developing surface water and stormwater solutions that involve environmental contaminants is a benefit. The successful candidate will demonstrate a desire to achieve company and career advancement through diligent work, technical competence, client satisfaction, and involvement in State Professional Societies. Nobis Engineering has an exciting opportunity for a Staff Engineer to become a part of our growing Civil Engineering Team in our Concord NH office. We are seeking a candidate whose primary role will be to work in a team environment while being responsible for preparing site designs utilizing AutoCAD Civil 3D under the direction of senior staff.

  • The successful candidate will collaborate with team members and others to efficiently execute assignments by supporting design engineers with plan development and document production using engineering software and computer hardware necessary to complete engineering analysis and design projects.
  • Review and interpret engineering reports, design drawings and specifications, vendor submittals, maps, regulations, field test results, aerial photographs, and other data.
  • This candidate will also prepare review and modify, as necessary, technical reports, specifications, remedial designs, plans, calculations, and other documents.
  • Communicate technical information with vendors and accurately document such communications.
  • This position may require field work which would include observation at project sites prior to, during, or after construction to assess feasibility, monitor progress, and/or ensure conformance.

Nobis Engineering is seeking an energetic, highly qualified environmental chemist to support federal and non-federal environmental projects throughout the Northeast. This position is part time, but could become full time. Projects include a variety of complex sampling programs for investigations and remediation of sites with a variety of contaminated media (soil, groundwater, sediment, air and soil gas). Contaminants include chlorinated solvents, metals, PCBs, dioxins, furans, asbestos, petroleum related compounds, PFOA/PFAS and other emerging contaminants.

This candidate will work closely with, and support, Project Managers and technical staff with a wide range of chemistry subjects including evaluation and selecting analytical methods for environmental sampling programs, performing data validation according to EPA guidelines, interpreting analytical results, selecting and auditing analytical laboratories and scheduling/coordinating work orders with analytical laboratories. Will oversee the exchange of laboratory electronic data deliverables in support of our environmental chemical database. Responsibilities will include:

  • Quality Assurance / Quality Management
  • Quality Assurance Projects Plans for EPA and US Army Corps of Engineers
  • Tier I and II+ Data Validation and Coordination of Automated Data Reviews
  • Management of Electronic Data Deliverables (EDDs)

Special Assignments from Various Clients as Needed

B.S. or B.A. in chemistry with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience. Analytical laboratory experience is preferred. Preference will be given to applicants with prior experience performing EPA methods, laboratory QA/QC protocols, data validation, and familiarity working with electronic data deliverables. Analytical, investigation and remedial experience with PFOA/PFAS and other emerging contaminants is preferable. Candidate should be capable of using Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, and Word. Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. Some field work at sites located within New England may be required. Training and certification in an industry-recognized quality management program is also a plus.

Nobis Engineering has an exciting opportunity for a hydrogeologist with 3-10 year experience for remedial investigation and feasibility studies (RI/FS). Will conduct geologic and hydrologic characterizations, site contaminant investigations, and remedial alternative assessments. Will serve as needed as field team leader for the planning and implementation of environmental investigation/remediation projects. Will observe and document remedial actions; prepare technical reports, and conduct technical presentations.

Include but are not limited to:

  • Effectively collaborates with team members and others to execute assignments, including mentoring/direction to junior staff.
  • Collects environmental samples; operates/maintains field equipment, performs decontamination; packages and ships samples.
  • As field team leader, directs team members to effectively execute assignments, provides strong organizational and managerial skills.
  • Observes and/or oversees field activities and remedial construction, including providing technical direction to team members and subcontractors and prepares written reports documenting field activities and construction.
  • Ensures technical, quality, and safety compliance with project plans, specifications, and regulations.
  • Prepares and/or reviews technical data, reports, specifications, plans, calculations, and/or other technical information.
  • Supports the development of conceptual site models (CSM) for contaminated rural and urban environments.
  • Capable of performing hydrogeological calculations, such as pumping test design and analysis; plume geometry and transport estimates; contaminant mass estimates.
  • Meets with clients, contractors/subcontractors, regulators, and other consultants to discuss proposed or ongoing work.

A Bachelor of Science (BS) or Masters of Science (MS) degree from an accredited college or university in hydrogeology or geology (with an emphasis on hydrogeology course work). Must have minimum 3 years of professional experience in the investigation and assessment of environmentally impacted sites, or a Master’s Degree in hydrogeology with course work in contaminant hydrogeology. Knowledge of chemical fate and transport concepts, including natural attenuation. Must have experience with interpreting hydrogeologic data; preparing piezometric surface maps, geologic sections, and plume extents laterally and vertically. Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to travel for project site visits, meetings, data collection, and training. Candidates must have OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER Training and associated annual refresher.

Preference given to candidates with experience in one of more of the following areas: impacted mine sites; numerical groundwater modeling; geostatistics, geochemistry, or the CERCLA FS process, in particular the evaluation of technical alternatives for cleanup, including cost analysis.
