The position is a mid-level project scientist position for a candidate with between 5 and 10 years of relevant experience. The position will perform project tasks associated with the analysis, evaluation, assessment, characterization, investigation, design, remediation, and/or permitting of a property that has been contaminated by releases of hazardous substances, pollutants, or contaminants. The work conducted by this position will be overseen by more-experienced team members or the position’s direct supervisor.
The ideal candidate will be expected to: distill and evaluate large sets of environmental data; develop conclusions (e.g., conceptual site models); present the data and evaluations in clearly written and concise deliverables to internal and external clients; identify, evaluate, and recommend remedial action technologies to address contaminant releases; and perform the necessary analysis and document preparation to recommend a remedial action program. The candidate will be expected to provide technical assistance in the completion of CERCLA/National Contingency Plan (NCP) remedial investigations and feasibility studies (RI/FS). Additional duties would include the design and performance of multi-media field-sample collection programs, leading field investigation teams, and serving as a primary point of contact while in the field. Travel throughout the Northeast is expected for short and longer-term assignments. Nobis strongly encourages participation in professional organizations and involvement in community outreach.
Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Arts degree from an accredited four-year college or university in engineering or appropriate physical science (e.g., Environmental Science, Chemistry, Geology, Hydrogeology) and 5-10 years of experience in contaminated-site investigation and remedial action analysis. Must be familiar with the ASTM (or similar) soil classification standard. Must be familiar with applicable federal (specifically CERCLA and the Superfund process), state, and local rules and regulations. Possession of an up-to-date OSHA HAZWOPER training and a valid driver’s license is required. Excellent writing and communication skills, and a team-focused collaborative approach to work execution are essential. Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, ESRI GIS, and Microsoft software suites is preferred.
